01

A safer default

Age-appropriate experiences should reduce unwanted contact and sensitive recommendations while preserving young people’s ability to create, learn and belong. Available protections vary with age and country.

02

For young people

  • Keep personal details such as school, routine and live location private.
  • Block and report adults or peers who pressure you for secrecy, money or intimate images.
  • Tell a trusted adult when contact feels threatening, sexual or controlling.
  • Never pay someone who threatens to share an image; preserve evidence and ask for help.
03

For parents and guardians

Start with conversation rather than surveillance. Agree on boundaries, learn the reporting tools together and take disclosures seriously. Do not confront a suspected exploiter through the young person’s account.
